How to use FaceTime on Android

Can You FaceTime Android?

Yes, but only if someone with an Apple device invites you.

FaceTime is Apple’s video and audio calling service, mostly known for working on iPhones and other Apple devices. Until recently, FaceTime was off-limits to anyone using Android. But now, thanks to a feature introduced in iOS 15, Android users can join FaceTime calls through a web link. No iPhone required on your end.

Quick Facts: FaceTime Android

  • You can join FaceTime calls from Android
  • You can’t start FaceTime calls
  • There’s no FaceTime app for Android
  • You must use Chrome or Edge (not Firefox or Safari)
  • The link must come from an Apple user

So if a friend or family member wants to chat using FaceTime and you’re on Android, just ask them to send you a FaceTime link. Once you get that link, you’ll be able to join the call right in your browser.

How to FaceTime Android (Step-by-Step)

Here’s a complete walkthrough for Android users who want to join a FaceTime call:

  • You can’t start a call yourself. Someone with an iPhone, iPad, or Mac needs to create a FaceTime link and send it to you.
  • The link might arrive by text, email, WhatsApp, or any other app. It will look like a normal website link (e.g., https://facetime.apple.com/join/...).
  • Open the message or email containing the link.
  • Tap the link. It will automatically open in your phone’s default browser.
  • Make sure you’re using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Safari and Firefox are not supported for this.

Step 3: Type in your name

  • You’ll see a screen that says “Join FaceTime.”
  • Enter your name. This is just so others in the call know who you are.
  • Tap Continue.

Step 4: Give browser permissions

  • You’ll be asked to allow the browser to access your microphone and camera.
  • Tap Allow when prompted. If you deny access, people won’t be able to hear or see you.
  • You can also manually grant access from your browser’s settings if needed.

Step 5: Wait for the host to let you in

  • After you tap “Join,” you’ll see a message saying “Waiting to be let in.”
  • The Apple user who created the link will get a notification to admit you.
  • Once they approve you, you’re in the call!

FaceTime is one of the best ways to remain in touch with loved ones, free of charge even when you're travelling. You also don't have to worry about missing important alerts, as your alarms will still work during FaceTime calls.

FaceTime App Android

There’s no official FaceTime app for Android and Apple has not indicated the creation of such app. So while you can join a call using a link, you can’t:

  • Start new calls from Android
  • Add other people to a call
  • Schedule FaceTime links yourself

If you want full control over calls and features, try a cross-platform app instead like WhatsApp, Google Meet, Zoom, or Skype. These apps work on both Android and Apple devices, and you won’t need to rely on someone else to create a link.

If you’re the Apple user trying to help a friend on Android join your FaceTime call, here’s what to do:

  1. Open the FaceTime app.
  2. Tap Create Link.
  3. A menu will pop up to share the link.
  4. Choose how you want to send it: via Messages, WhatsApp, Gmail, or even copy-paste it into any app.
  5. Once the Android user clicks it, you’ll get a notification asking if you want to let them in. Tap Admit.

Tip: You can create FaceTime links ahead of time if you want to schedule a video call later. Just save the link and share it when you're ready. You can also share your FaceTime screen to enhance your call experience.

FAQ

How to FaceTime iPhone to Android?

iPhone users must open FaceTime, tap Create Link, and send it to their Android contact. Once the Android user opens the link and joins, the iPhone user has to tap Admit.

How to FaceTime from Android to iPhone

Here’s the key: Android users can’t start a FaceTime call. But you can still FaceTime with iPhone users, they just have to invite you.

Think of it like this:

  • If you're on Android, you’re always the guest.
  • If the person you're calling is on iPhone, they need to send the link.
  • Once they do, you can join instantly in your browser.

If you want a more balanced calling experience (where you can start calls too), it might be worth switching to a universal app like WhatsApp or Zoom instead.

Does Android have FaceTime?

No. Android does not support the FaceTime app. The only way Android users can participate in FaceTime calls is through a browser link shared by an Apple user.

Can I FaceTime on Android?

Yes, but with limitations:

  • You can’t start calls.
  • You need a link from an Apple user.
  • You must use Chrome or Edge on Android.

Once in the call, you can talk, see others, mute yourself, and leave when done just like a regular video call.
